Mr. Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman
Senior Executive Vice President
Mr. Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman currently serves as the Senior Executive Vice President & Head of Retail Business Division at United Commercial Bank PLC. He joined the Bank in May 2015 as Executive Vice President & Head of Imperial Banking (Priority Banking).
Over the years, he has held several key leadership roles, including Head of Service Quality and Regional Head of the Rangpur Region. In October 2022, he was appointed Head of Retail Business Division, in addition to his responsibilities as Head of Imperial Banking.
In his current role, Mr. Shafiq leads the Bank’s retail business strategy, driving growth across multiple dimensions. His responsibilities include customer acquisition and retention, expansion of retail deposits and asset portfolios, credit card and merchant acquiring business, as well as the development of Alternative Delivery Channels (ADC). He also oversees the National Sales Team and plays a pivotal role in strengthening the Bank’s digital banking footprint, while consistently enhancing customer experience in the retail segment.
Under his leadership, the Retail Business Division has achieved notable progress. He has contributed significantly to strengthening business structures, refining processes, and fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and performance excellence.
Mr. Shafiq brings with him extensive experience in branch banking, retail business and customer relationship management. His strategic insight and people-centric leadership style have been instrumental in driving sustainable growth and operational excellence.
In addition to his role at the Bank, he serves as a Director of UCB Asset Management Limited as a nominated representative of United Commercial Bank PLC.
He began his banking career with ANZ Grindlays Bank in May 1999. Following its merger, he continued with Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh in 2001, where he served with distinction until May 2015.
Mr. Shafiq holds a Master’s degree (1995) and has also completed part of a Law qualification. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous training and leadership development programs, both locally and internationally. Among them, notable are the Business Goal Management and “Being a Talented Manager Programme” in Chennai organized by Standard Chartered.
A widely travelled individual, he is also a keen sports enthusiast. He is married and blessed with two sons.
